High-sugar Product with Four Stars
Do you think Cereals, muesli bars, and some organic snack products should have health star ratings reduced and manufacturers should be stopped from gaming the system?
They are among a large range of packaged foods including snacks and breakfast cereals which could have their number of stars reduced when the Australia and New Zealand Ministerial Forum on Food Regulation meets to discuss a new method of calculating health ratings in July.
A new algorithm would more accurately calculate and reflect nutritional value. It would more accurately disclose foods with added sugar and sodium. This would mean that many unhealthy products ... would get a lower rating so the everyday consumer can simply pick up and feel reassured they are choosing a relatively healthy option.
Michele says that a more accurate rating would encourage manufacturers to reformulate products in a nutritionally meaningful way. We are interested in your thoughts?
