What do hormones do?
Hormones control bodily functions from sleep to hunger, growth, mood and reproduction. You know the process of wading through the crowd that you go through when searching for a friend in a crowded bar? It’s similar with hormones. When your brain receives a signal to send a specific hormone, that hormone is released from its source and travels through the bloodstream to its destination – the cell. It meets up with its matching hormone receptor and works its magic. The receptor is your friend. That is unless the receptor or hormone is dysfunctional. Then the hormone can’t do its job. Its levels rise or fall, affecting the behaviour of other hormones – and your weight, energy and mood.
